How baseball can be educational

Sports are a fundamental part of life, they enable us to relax and enjoy living-a classic example of all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. The very essence of how sports bring people from all over the world is also an amazing concept; this simple games have united millions world over to forget about everything else and focus on cheering and simply being happy. Sports however, aside from bringing joy and making life just a tad bit easy, can also be very educational. There are so many things that simply being involved in a sport can teach you. These are things that you would never know or take seriously, if you were not part of the scene or the hype. To prove that this holds true we will take an example of baseball; the all-American game that brings millions of Americans together and still manages to instill some hard core values to each individual in the team and the millions of fans that it boasts of.

Baseball is a game played by two teams. Each team has nine innings and the point is that each team tries to score runs. The home team always bats second and the visiting team bats at the top of the inning. Baseball has a very humble history. It is said to originate from the very popular English game of rounders played in the nineteenth century. It was commonly referred to as town ball' or the base' or baseball'. The first game of baseball that was recorded was in 1846.It became a very big deal thereafter with several amateur teams being called to discuss the rules and so forth and many leagues being formed in support of the game. While baseball is such a tremendous and great game it still manages to be a tool through which to pass information almost overtaking the basic classroom in its effectiveness perhaps it is celebrated by thousands, millions at that.

Professional baseball players play a key role as role models to a lot of America's youths. This same youth is faced with so many problems, so many questions, so many decisions and it is amazing to see how being in the baseball scene is affecting them positively. For instance obesity affects almost half the population of Americans especially the youth, what with new technology and all that has relegated the ultimate importance of the outdoors and simple basic exercise. However, an American in the baseball scene is influenced by his or her favorite baseball star to keep fit and eat healthy. If my all time favorite baseball super star takes time to work out and eat healthy and looks like a million dollars while at it then what excuse do I have to sit at the couch like a potato all day doing nothing. With the millions of fans that it has one can only imagine a how healthy America will be in a few years time. I keep an archive of almost what each particular star does to keep fi t, what foods they avoid and how they generally manage to look so healthy all the time, then I follow these steps and do my at most best to ensure that I am fit and healthier each day. I have to say that without this kind of motivation I probably would have no interest whatsoever with keeping fit or being healthy, what with my age and the many things happening around me, especially in the college scene.

The issue of drugs is also quite rampant in the United States of America and especially among the youth. Drugs like cocaine and marijuana are almost too shockingly popular among the youth and a healthy lifestyle is becoming a thing of the past. However, for a youth in the baseball scene leading a healthy lifestyle becomes almost like a mantra. First of all there is the general influence of the baseball stars not to do drugs. Some anti-drugs organizations use these stars for their campaigns because they will no doubt reach their millions of fans and impact better than any other person would. Imagine being advised first hand by your baseball hero not to use drugs, not to be part of the almost sixty percent of youths in America taking part in the misuse of drugs but to abstain and stay clean; because he did it and that is how he got to be so successful, you would listen, perhaps better than you would if your parents or someone else talked to you about it. It is very endearing , warms the heart even to see thousands of youths some of whom are friends making such wonderful decisions having been influenced by the baseball scene. This goes a long way to show that baseball can be very educative indeed.

There are also slogans that are formed and given to the fans which contain very educative information. They educate about the use of drugs and the very awful effects they have on a person's mental, physical and emotional state. Effects of each particular drug are highlighted and the general use of these drugs is vehemently discouraged. There are young people who use drugs because they are ignorant to what and how they affect the body and baseball helps eradicate this ignorance through this. It also strives to educate about the negative effects of steroids; how unnaturally stimulating your body can cause such drastic outcomes and cause health problems to a person. Personally, this is perhaps the greatest move ever made using a sport like baseball to discourage performance enhancers because this is a field where so many would be tempted to take them. When all this anti-drugs campaign is happening around you it is almost impossible to still become indifferent and become a dru g user and thus America continues to strive in its success of becoming a drug free-state .Baseball also gives thousands of scholarships to hundreds of talented and young people throughout America. Thus many American youth in the baseball scene have benefited through and through from this, however if any player who was deemed talented was found with a record of having used drugs or having been associated with drugs in anyway, this scholarship is automatically withdrawn. Baseball not only cares about how much talent you have it cares about how one is morally and socially too (http://drugfree.mlblogs.com). It is very helpful especially for a college student like me to be in the baseball scene. I would have been a victim of so many frat parties and perhaps even jeopardized my school work but my love and following of this game and its stars makes me avoid this over indulgence and my college life has become so much more about purpose than about recklessness.
